Pressure sensitivity on the iPad
tenOne shows video over on their blog with a a proof of concept on pressure sensitivity on the iPad. Looks great, sad thing is they use so called “private methods” which leads to rejection when used by third-party app developers. Let’s hope apple sees this and adds this functionality to the SDK. {via @kevinbarba}
The role of the stylus is unclear here, I would assume it’s independent and should also work with the finger.

Oh, thats great. Does this work with IPhone and Itouch, too?

I don’t think it’s actually pressure sensitivity. but surface area analysis. If you check out this diagram http://flashmobile.scottjanousek.com/2008/02/21/iphones-touch-screen-explained/ you can see that the iphone and ipad examine the surface area of whatever is touching the screen, but then it boils that data down to a single coordinate, and passes the result to the application. I asked the question about a year ago, could an application like Brushes get access to the raw surface data information before it was homogenized, and use that data for some really killer pressure simulation? It looks like that’s what they’ve done here.

Oh! And I’m really, really excited about it! 🙂
